Loitering at Christmas...

Have just realised that I've totally neglected poor old Palelyloitering something chronic in the rush of the last few days... weeks... since autumn... eep!

If nothing else I need to put up some Christmas fic, and since I'm missing The Hatstand's Advent Calendar terribly this year - would people care to rec their favourite Christmas fic, so that we have a nice long list of them all lined up and ready to read? (Or keep reading, even... *g*) After all, it's either snowy or wet or frozen or otherwise shivery for so many of us right now...

...what Pros-y fic do you best like to read at Christmas, kept specially waiting to curl up with and be festive...?

advent of fic

There's no way in the world I could ever choose only one! Did you mean favourite, singular - or favourites, cornucopia? *g*

Let's see .... well one of my dearest, best-loved of all is one we've just been talking about - Boxing Day, by The Hag.
Then there's 'Tis the Season by Courtney Gray, that I'm fond of;
A Chance of Fate by Claire Dobbin - not actually xmassy, but it starts in the Russian winter so there's enough snow for any number of xmasses;
Christmas Snow by PFL;
Like a Thunderstorm by Callisto ("I don't do christmas but I do do you");
The End is Where We Start From by PFL;
When All Our Dreams Come True by byslantedlight ....

these are a few of my favourite things! *g*

Re: advent of fic

Hee - I know, it's true, I don't think I could either... Come to think of it though, I should list some right back at you... Hmmn... *g*

Down to the Waterline by Sebastian, which was also in the list of suggestions...

The High Road by M. Fae Glasgow, if New Year counts as well - I love that fic...

Of Trees and Needles by Magenta Blue, which I've just re-read. *happy sigh*

Oh, and then In the Bleak Midwinter by Brenda K - just re-read that too, and it's just lush...

Oh I know, I know! JM's In Hot Water: An Idyll - on ProsLib!

O'Yardley's There's An Old Mill

Oh, and there's another one I'm thinking of, that I really really love, and it's on the tip of my tongue, and... I'll have to come back to you... *stoopid sieve-like...*

I couldn't resist a rec last week from [info]blkandwhtcat to "Ringing in the Changes" by PFL: http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/13/ringingin.html.

and I'm glad I gave in to temptation.

Oh yes, that's another good one! And for some reason that's made me think of Under the Tree and After Christmas by DVS, and then that made me think of Not A Very Silent Silent Night by Alexandra... *g*

My absolute faves are ones that have been mentioned above. JM In Hot Water
and O Yardley's There's a Old Mill...although I am sure there must be many more.

I know - I've read so many gorgeous Christmas fics, and could I remember them last night? No... That's why reminders are good... *g* I'm sure Hatstand has a Christmas stories list too, I must go and check that out...

How about a little HG for the list, perhaps "Leftovers"?

Oh, I was trying to find HG Christmas fic last night, and for the life of me I couldn't think of any! And I've forgotten this one too, so maybe I'll print it out and read it for lunch... thank you! *g*

Ooh, just went to print it out and came across On the First Day of Christmas and My True Love Sent to Me too - hurrah! And thank you! *vbg*

Three of my favourites not yet mentioned here:

Beautiful Year by Verlaine: http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/19/beautifulyear.html
A Hearth for Christmas by PFL: I think it is only on Proslib, I just looked but did not find it online.
Pwnco: http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/19/pwnco.html

Thanks for these - sorry I'm so late replying, I'm only just getting the list up at Palelyloitering.com, but better late than never, I guess... *g*

A Hearth for Christmas posted online at [info]discoveredinalj's 2008 Christmas challenge, Discovered Whilst A-Carolling. Unfortunately Hatstand and Circuit had both stopped archiving by then, so it's harder to find stories... If you go to Discoveredinalj's Profile Page you'll see banners for previous challenges, and clicking on those will bring up a tag list to all the stories that were posted for that challenge. There's also Palelyloitering.com, where you can search under author and find links to all their fic - although it's very much a work in progress and I don't think I've linked to all of PFL's yet, for example...

You missed the heydey of Pros archiving though, Hatstand and Circuit were both beautifully live and active a few years ago, and pretty much everything that was posted to lj was automatically archived by their hard-working archivists. That's why we had headers/trailers in the first place - purely for archiving purposes!

Hi, no problem. It must be very time-consuming to do the discoveredinalj and palelyloitering.com.
Thank you for your tipps how to find stories!
