NS: A Wintry Discontent

Title: A Wintry Discontent
Author: Callisto
Format: A teeny snippet
Circuit/ Pros Lib: Certainly
Gen/Slash: A pinch of slash.*g*
Disclaimer: Not mine, sadly.
Summary: I have a million things to do, not least of which is packing for a trip to Istanbul. This came into my head as I saw the weather report for how frigging COLD it's going to be there..

A Wintry Discontent

Doyle jammed his hands in his pockets and tried not to shift his weight back and forth. He’d already had one hopping frog remark from Bodie, and it was too cold and early for another one.

“Oi, Kermit! Get this down you and stop jittering around. Giving me a bloody headache you are.”

A steaming cup of tea from the thermos was thrust at him, and while he would have liked to have upended it all over the smug bastard’s head, he was too chilled to waste it. So he took the offered cup and glared.

Bodie grinned.

Doyle shook his head.

Might as well glare at asbestos.

“You just stand there and defrost, sunshine,” said Bodie, still grinning.

The scalding, sugary tea was doing wonders, and Doyle couldn’t be bothered to find a retort. Anson and Murph would be out in twenty minutes to take their turn camping in the bushes in someone’s back bloody garden, and if his majesty over there didn’t feel the cold, then his majesty could take his Kermit remarks and shove them up his jacksy.

He slurped and smacked his lips as loudly as he possibly could.

Silence from his partner this time and it was Doyle’s turn to feel smug.

Then Bodie sniffed.

Doyle peered at him closely and saw a tremor. And another.

He frowned as he realised something. “Where’s yours?”

“My what?”

“Tea, you idiot. Or do you army types always shiver when you’re warm and happy, then?”

A shrug.

Give me strength.

“Was only one cup left. I’ll warm meself up with one when the shift’s over.”

Doyle looked down and let the steam from his tea mist him up a moment. He glanced around to make sure, then stepped sideways and kissed Bodie on his left temple.

“What the bloody hell was that for?”

“Nothing, you soft git. Keep your eyes on the house.”

Cor this is bloody lovely! I've read it about ten times already. A kiss to the left temple ... so gorgeous.

if his majesty over there didn’t feel the cold, then his majesty could take his Kermit remarks and shove them up his jacksy.

Cackling out loud! You have perfect timing ... I'm just about to go and do something I'm not looking forward to one bit (don't ask) and it's really flaming freezing out there, but now I'll just cackle my way through it. Thanks!

I'm glad I could spread some warmth around! Where I'm headed we're supposed to be having a boat trip as part of the fun. They were all cancelled yesterday because of how rough the sea was. Uh-oh.

Thank you my dear for your kind comments. I always wanted to write 'up yer jacksy' in a fic, and now I have.*g*

Love everything about this - the teasing, the bloody annoyance, the impervious-to-glaring Bodie - and especially the soft git (well, Doyle calling him that - and Bodie being soft in a hard-as-nails sort of way where Doyle's concerned). Ta, that was smashing!

You're very welcome. Thank you, I'm happy all that came through for you. The way these two take care of each other; all piss, spit and snark, yet also a die-for-each-other love underpinning it all...just makes me adore them.

Lovely. Feel much warmer now as I have been out in the snow doing some shopping and just got back. I love it when Bodie gets all protective, big old softie that he is. Wait a minute... if Doyle's Kermit, does that mean Bodie's gotta be Miss Piggy??? *ponders and cracks up a the idea*

Oh Gawd, Bodie as Miss Piggy!! Now there's an early morning image..*g* Glad this could warm you up a bit.

Now that's a delightful interlude for a winter's morning! Okay, so it's still autumn, but there were flurries when I was out running this morning! This is nice and warm cozy, isn't it? Bodie looking after Doyle, and Doyle thanking him properly. *g* Thank you!

Yes, nothing says warm fuzzies in Pros land like Bodie giving up the last hot bit of tea in a thermos for Doyle.. Glad you enjoyed it!

Awwwww bless. Was so *them*, and so right that Bodie should let his Doyle have the one cuppa.

It's cold here too! I'm not ready for Winter! I read this at lunch and it was just fabulous. I love, love, love how Bodie forgoes tea so that Doyle could have it. I think that's exactly in character. Sigh. Thanks for writing and posting this.

Your usual deft touch, big tough Bodie looking after his Doyle - oh, and that kiss - just beautifully understated. And no snow here but a thick frost this morning so this was very timely.
Thank you for posting this little gem!

How nice that it timed in with a winter frost! Thank you, Rosie, and I do love the way these two look out for each other. Never any fuss, but it's there just the same.

Oh very nice - thank you! You should clearly see weather reports more often... *g*

I keep wondering though - what does "NS" stand for?

[info]callistosh65

November 19 2007, 10:06:40 UTC 4 years ago

Thanks! And NS is New Story - it's a habit from the S/H fandom - I think just "Fic" is customary here, right?

Awwww, that was sweet. I love Bodie taking care of his Ray. And I love that little kiss at the end. Thank you!

November 19 2007, 10:08:04 UTC 4 years ago

Thank you - I too love the gruff but caring manner Bodie has about him with Ray, and a cup of tea seemed to be the way to say it!

November 15 2007, 21:56:38 UTC 4 years ago

Ah that's just lovely! Totally them - all that delicious snark. And the thing that got to me most wasn't the kiss (although YAY for the kiss!) but Bodie's reaction: “What the bloody hell was that for?”

He really doesn't know. That's the beauty of it. ♥

November 19 2007, 10:09:31 UTC 4 years ago

Thank you - and thanks for picking out Bodie's reaction, I wanted the kiss to catch him by surprise.

Very nice, sweetie. Such a warming story. I loved that Bodie gave Doyle the last bit. Now if that isn't love, what is? (And the kiss!) *happy sigh* Thank you.

Yup, the last cup of tea in a thermos on a cold winter's morn is definitely an act of love..*g* Thanks.

Made me smile on a chill November morning! And agree with bistokids, it's Bodie's reaction to it that is so in character and fab :)

November 16 2007, 18:33:14 UTC 4 years ago

Oh, I =love= that! One of my most favorite things in Pros is words of love masquerading as insults. And Bodie making the ultimate sacrifice for an Englishman, giving up his tea for the one he loves... ::sigh:: It's enough to make a girl feel all warm and glowy inside. :-D

Thanks, hon, for finding the time to fit this in to your busy schedule. I utterly enjoyed it.

Thank you, An. And love masquerading as insults is what these two are all about, so I love that it worked for you. Glad I made you glow!
