I've been wanting to post all week and not managing it for one reason and another. Work was actually quite busy yesterday, and Second Job was even more busy (which was good, but does take away from t'interneting time, and of course it's when I'm busy with other things and can't that I most want to post and write and all... But I turned on my computer this morning and my flist is all about
December - yeay! And
Discovered in a Christmas Tree is off to a fab start, and I'm almost starting to feel quite Christmas-y! I reckon just a bit more might tip me over the edge, so I was wondering...
Would anyone like to give me a one-word, December-ish/Christmas-ish/Winter-ish prompt, and I'll have a go at writing some Pros-y drabbles today? My ability to write seems to have leaked out somewhere between here and Australia and back again, but maybe just a bit of a push and a bit of inspiration and it'll be mine again...? Help?
And I was going to post this at my own lj, but... maybe if I post it to
the_safehouse then other people might like to join in and write some December-ish/Christmas-ish/Winter-ish drabbles as well...? We could all be prompted - and it's Friday, after all... *g*

A Frostry Night
Hello, and yeay! *g* It's like that here too, I wish I could go out in it instead of just looking out over houses... though I get the sky, too! Okay, let's see what I can do...A Frostry Night*
by Slantedlight
It was sharp-cold in the field, and jagged of edge. Pricks of frost glinted and crunched when Bodie moved, though they couldn’t move far, not when they were on obs.
Watching, always watching.
A still cold, then, holding its breath, waiting for the sun to launch into the sky and blaze ever more fiercely, for the frost to melt and the day to begin.
Before him the horizon slowly washed silver, shone copper and bronze.
Beside him, Doyle shifted slowly, lifted his head. “I’m sorry,” he said.
At last.
Frost crunched as Bodie moved, and the sun began to shine.
* Title unashamedly pinched from the Robert Graves' poem, though I didn't wander off in the same direction after all...
Well, it's a start, I guess... thank you! *g*

The Surprise Inside
Ooh, this is working! Well, here's the first one at any rate... *g*The Surprise Inside
by Slantedlight
They’d pulled a couple of crackers, Doyle thought as Charley pressed against him, as Karen leaned closer to Bodie, ran her hand up his thigh, kissed him under the mistletoe. Proper crackers, these, crowns of golden hair to run fingers through, jokish whispers and giggles sighing across ears and necks…
He turned Charley around to watch her undress, and caught another glimpse of Bodie, half naked now, all hard-muscled legs, rounded arse, and long thick cock.
And Doyle’s breath left him in a surge of want, for just him, just Bodie, and for Bodie to be fucking him. Alone.
Bang.

Re: The Surprise Inside
Doyle didn't get the surprise he wanted. :( Or maybe he got the surprise he hadn't expected. Good job with this one.December 2 2011, 10:39:04 UTC 5 months ago

Angel Hair
I had to go and look up angel hair, cos although I could imagine what it was (I was imaginging what they call "tinsel" in the USA - those thin trips of metallic paper) I'd never really seen it over here... Anyway, I didn't find it for ages, but it's glass fibre! It must have been really pretty, though I can guess why it doesn't seem to be made any more... Anyway, the actual first thing I thought of was this... *g*Angel Hair
by Slantedlight
There are some names that Doyle doesn’t mind – Sherlock, Batman, even Raymundo – and some that are guaranteed to make his eyes flash. Goldilocks was pretty good, and the Bionic Golly, but Bodie’s latest soubriquet will do it every time.
Angel-hair.
“Get us another pint, Angel-hair,” he’ll say, reaching out to ruffle Doyle’s crop of curls, or “You finished that report yet, Angel-hair?” wrapping both hands around Doyle’s head in happy emphasis.
Yeah, it winds Doyle up something chronic, a good laugh.
It doesn’t have anything to do with being able to touch Doyle like that in public. Nothing at all.

In the meantime... chestnuts. (That is one word, not two... oh go on, then.)

In Deep December
Yeay for getting stuck in this afternoon and evening - go and do many chores now! *g* In the meantime... though I might need to apologise for this one, it's a little scarily just the direction my mind went...In Deep December
by Slantedlight
Smoke filled the air, though he couldn’t feel the heat of the fire from here, just the sharply-tanged cold, could hear singing.
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…
They’d had chestnuts once, him and Bodie, because Bodie’d never tasted them. He’d burned his fingers, and Doyle had laughed.
…nipping at your toes…
Bodie loved his toes, he’d said so once - I even love…
So Bodie would come, he knew Bodie would come.
…will find it hard to sleep…
Dawson leaned over him, hovered the brand above his naked body.
Bodie would come.
Chestnuts…
Upstairs a door slammed.

That reminds me of one of your short stories. And I am looking for it some time now.
Doyle nearly falls off an icy(?) roof top.
I loved it! But I really can't find it anymore.

En compass
I think I am getting the hang of this. I am sure something like this is bound to have been done before, but here you go.En compass
Bodie didn't miss the northern waters. Even worse than the Cape of Good Hope had been the North Sea in March. Spray froze before it hit the metal. The Norwegian captain muttered about the Draug, about Finns, about Frost Giants.
Bodie didn't miss the southern lands. Even worse than Cape Town had been the aridity of the savannah in Angola in the dry season. The air shimmered after the sun rose. The older mercenaries told tales of deserts, of grass fires, of bleached skeletons.
Bodie brooded silently. Until Doyle, that untidy sleeper, flung an arm out to drag him home.

I like the way "In Deepest December" transforms from the cozy Christmas scene we think it will be, into something more sinister.
Oh and thank you for the Bodie description in "The Surprise Inside". That's one yummy way to start the festive season!

Tell you what - give me five minutes to make a new Safehouse post, for people with long flists who've already lost this, and couldn't get in yesterday with the ddos and all, and drop me a comment over there - I'll prompt you and we can set off all over again. How does that sound?
